The artist formerly known as Cat Stevens. Stevens had become a tax exile in Brazil, giving generously to children's charities (even starting one) and studying the Qur'an. Returned to England as a Muslim, changed his name, and started a school in London. In the US, there were record-burnings after his anti-Gulf War statements; he also allegedly supports the fatwa against Salman Rushdie. Still makes music, but only of the religious kind. The Stevens royalties still go to charity.
