The term Yooper describes someone who is from or resides in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The name comes from the acronym U.P. Interestingly enough, the term is widely used. For example, there is Da Yooper Tourist Trap and it's not uncommon to see people driving with front license plates that say YOOPER. T-shirts that state someone is a Yooper are also quite popular.
