Xy"ris (?), n. [L., a kind of Iris, Gr. , fr. a razor.] Bot.
A genus of endogenous herbs with grassy leaves and small yellow flowers in short, scaly-bracted spikes; yellow-eyed grass. There are about seventeen species in the Atlantic United States.
