Wow, when I followed the link here, I was sure from the title that this was going to be about a New Yorker cartoon that ranks among my all-time favorites. Somebody tacked this up in my college dining establishment years ago. The title along the top was:

2001: The Spike Lee Remake

The drawing depicted the surface of the moon, with a bunch of astronauts standing around a big monolith. One of them is turned toward the other one. The caption reads:

"It's a black thing...you wouldn't understand"

perdedor has since told me that he analyzed this cartoon in a class, and that it was at least partly intended to be a reference to Scott-Heron, so I suppose I'm not totally crazy for thinking this...
