Westwood Studios are a developer of computer games, primarily for the PC, who created the
Command & Conquer,
Legends of Kyrandia and
Lands of Lore series. (They also make games based upon Dune, such as
Dune II: The Battle for Arrakis and
Dune 2000, although I think the license has been passed on to another publisher now.) They have recently been fully
assimilated into the
Electronic Arts collective, where they are expected to meet the same fate as
Origin Systems and
Bullfrog Productions (i.e.
frontal lobotomy of any
creativity or
talent followed by systematic asset stripping).
Westwood's games are characterised by their high production values, which have spanned from glorious hand-drawn 2D VGA art, to production quality live action video and cutting-edge CG. They have remained successful by backing up this abundance of eye candy with decent gameplay (well, most of the time).
