High stepping to a 6/8 beat, head thrown back, arms akimbo,
eyes shut with laughter
too many heartbreaks have been renamed The Mistake
No more sullen tears making salt water taffy sticking to the teeth of my mind.
No more two stepping or twelve stepping
to awkward self-flagellating thumps on a plastic head snare drum.
Waving happiness like my Spanish sisters grab their skirts.
Step in time to the rhythms of a goddess long forgotten,
but very much alive in the skins.
