The title of Everything But the Girl's album released in 1996. (Atlantic Recording Corporation). Admittedly, one of the few CDs to never leave my weird spinny thing in my stereo. Creature of habit, so sue me.

This was the evolutionary point for EBTG, when they realized they had a definite style with Amplified Heart's Missing. I can imagine them saying, 'They like us! They really, really like us!'.....and then growing into their body of deep house, trip-hop, acid-jazz, whatever genre you feel like fitting them in. All escorted by Tracy's lingering voice and sharp lyrics.

Arguments can be made, but this is an album one really can't make up their minds whether it's the music or the words they enjoy more. The subtle drops of closure and wishes, combined with beats that would drag a dozing narcoleptic into motion......

The lyrics are what can be shared in this kind of space, so I warn you. There isn't a song on the album that you can't find at least one piece that you can relate to. Girl's got human nature down to a science....wait a minute, it is a science. Regardless, this an album that pulls things out of you that you may have forgotten were there.

Walking Wounded

Out amongst the walking wounded
Every face on every bus,
It's you and me and him and her,
Nothing can replace the us I knew
Nothing can replace the us I knew.

I'm never gonna let you go,
You know I'm never gonna let you go.

Now I know I had a choice,
Though you never made it clear to me.
I thought you never felt it deeply.
And now I'm never gonna let you go.

I could have loved you forever,
I could have loved you forever.

What do you want from me?
Are you trying to punish me?
Punish me for loving you?
Punish me for giving to you?
Punish me for nothing I do.
For nothing.

Out amongst the walking wounded
Every face on every bus,
It's you and me and him and her,
Nothing can replace the us I knew
Nothing can replace the us I knew.

I'm never gonna let you go,
You know I'm never gonna let you go.

Now I know I had a choice,
Though you never made it clear to me.
I thought you never felt it deeply.
And now I'm never gonna let you go.

I could have loved you forever,
Or I could have left you forever.

Somedays I think I could go insane,
Somedays I think I could go insane.
