Or, more properly, Victoria University in the
University of Toronto. One of the federated
colleges of the
University of Toronto. Founded in
Cobourg,
Ontario in 1836 as a
Methodist institution, it is now (vaguely) affiliated with
The United Church of Canada. It, like several other colleges at the university, has its own
Royal Charter allowing it to grant degrees. Federated with the
University of Toronto in 1892 and now one of the main residential and teaching colleges at the university. Notable
alumni include
Lester B. Pearson,
Margaret Atwood,
Northrop Frye (who also taught there for most of his life), and
Donald Sutherland.
