Uprock is the pre-breakdancing display a B-boy or B-girl does before they move on to their downrock (actual routine). Uprock is used for many reasons.

• to clear the breakdancer a personal dance floor to breakdance on safely
• to challenge another breakdancer to a breakdancing showdown
• to warm up
• to gain momentum for spin or glides

Uprock is comprised of some skipping and dancing just in another dancer's direction. This lets the other know they are being challenged.
