Japanese for plum tree. The plum blossom, or ume no hana, is a symbol of winter or early spring. Definitely a far off second to sakura in popularity. Plum is, horticulturally speaking, a complete mistranslation, but the flowers look similar, so it's good enough for government work. The actual colloquial English name is wintersweet.
