Veliko Turnovo, the capital of the Second Bulgarian State (1185 - 1393), centre of the Turnovo literary school headed by Patriarch Euthimius and including Grigory Tsamblak, Kiprian and Konstantin of Kostenets. The Turnovo school raised the prestige of medieval Bulgarian culture and exerted influence over the literature of other Slavic nations.
