A philosophy based on the theory that most ice cream fans would rather buy pints than half-gallon containers, and even though the package says 2-3 servings, hardcore pint buyers keep it to themselves by eating ice cream out of the container. The normal excuse is that it saves dishes from having to be washed.

This also goes hand in hand with the theory that pint buyers would rather pay high prices for extravagant brands (Ben and Jerry's, Häagen-Dazs, Godiva, Edy's Dreamery, hand packed pints from parlors) and gourmet flavors (Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz, Chocolate Hazelnut Truffle, Bailey's Irish Cream, New York Strawberry Cheesecake) than pay for plainer traditional flavors. Of course, all ice cream lovers really want is the perfect cookies & cream.

This sort of behavior is a true hallmark of either geekness, gluttony, good taste, or all three.
