(Nahuatl: "our revered mother"; possibly a translation of Spanish: Nuestra Madre, "our mother", a title of the Virgin Mary).

Aztec name for the patron saint of Latin America and the Philippines, the Virgin of Guadalupe.

According to the hagiography surrounding the Virgin of Guadalupe, the church built in honour of her in Mexico City (the world's largest Marian shrine) is supposedly built on top of a pre-Columbian cult site, dedicated to an Aztec mother goddess named Tonantzin. However, neither archaeological nor textual support for this supposition is available.
