Tompkins County is located in central New York, right at the base of Cayuga Lake (one of the Finger Lakes). It is the county that contains Ithaca, NY and therefore Cornell University. It is a part of the Finger Lakes Region which is responsable for some excelent wines. Other products of note include apples (which are fantastic) and dairy products. Tompkins county was carved by glaciers such that it is riddled with gorges and is quite a beautiful area in the summer time. The lake causes more snow than most people who aren't from that region can imagine; we had a blizzard almost every year (and they still made those stupid 'I survived the blizzard of' t-shirts every year). It is bordered by Schuyler, Chemung, Tioga, Cortland, Cayuga, and Seneca counties.
