A Thai city on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, now engulfed by the megalopolis Bangkok, which was founded on the east bank. Thonburi was capital of Siam before Bangkok and after Ayuthaya. It was made capital by Taksin, and a statue of him graces one of the insanely busy traffic circles of that congested quarter.
