The The

A musical project consisting of Matt Johnson and a rotating band including Johnny Marr of The Smiths. Their music is often melancholic, sometimes sexual, occasionally controversial, always quite intelligent, and not without a sense of humour. They are probably best known for "Infected" and "Dogs Of Lust" (snippets of which are often used
on MTV which, of course, never plays the video).

Worthy of mention here is the 1983 album 'Soul Mining' featuring guest musicians Zeke Manyika, (from the 80's band Orange Juice), and Jools Holland, (Squeeze and also hosted British music TV show The Tube). Artwork for the sleeve was done by Matt Johnson's brother, incidentally.
