Despite a core goodness that exists in the melanin-challenged, from Sydney to Marseilles to Chicago, there will, it seems, always be politicians willing to exploit the core evil that is lodged in voters' psyches; racial bonding has often been the most visceral and effective of options, but it is only one of the Big Scares ("tax-and-spend", "Big Labor", "liberals", "social*", ...) in the repertoire, leading us by one leash, or another.
