The One Tree was an amazing piece of art at Burning Man a couple of years ago. It was a bronze leafless tree set into a wooden deck in the playa. During the day, the branches dripped cold water, while at night, the branches were natural-gas candles. Thanks to the draw of cold water in the burning hot days and of light in the endless desert nights, it became a social center for the camp that year.

This, for me, is one of the best things about Burning Man. Some human spent huge amounts of time and money to build this sculpture as a gift to the community. He gave me and thousands like me respite from the heat, a place to meet interesting people, a second home on the playa. And I don't even know his name.
