The Silmarillion
The house of Bëor was one of the first three and the greatest of the houses of the Edain. Even though Bëor allied and joined with the house of Finrod Felagund, they were always recognized as a separate house and people. Bëor was called the Old because his lifespan was greater than any of Men to come, save Elros the half-Elven. He was also the first of the Children of Ilúvatar to die of old age, which was a thing both the Edain and Eldar marveled at. One cause of their marvel was that no one in the history of Arda had died of simple age before, and that the fate of Men was separated from that of Arda and Elves; only Eru knew where Men went after they died.
Among the most distinguished members of the house of Bëor are Túrin Turambar (and all the family of Húrin), Boromir, Elrond and Elros the Half-Elven, Barahir, Arathorn II, and Eärendil.
