The Donkey Show is named after a kind of pornography involving a woman and a donkey (I won't go in to it). Despite its bestial name, the show is actually a rendition of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Nights Dream or, as the company prefers to call it, "A Midsummer’s Night Disco." You see, the whole play is set in the 1970s the theatre is a disco club ( you need to be 21 or older to get in), the play is an immersive experience with entrances and exits from all directions. Immersive theatre is hard to pull off well— The Donkey Show is one of the few productions ever to win universal support from critics for the technique.

The play opened in New York City in1999, It is now playing in London too. It was directed by Diane Paulus & Randy Weiner.
