They were actually the Candy Store Prophets. During the days when The Monkees were mainly actors (and not given a big hands-on role with their music), Boyce and Hart's own musicians handled the music and background vocals. They eventually gained prominence under their own name, with hits like "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight" and "Out and About" (plugged shamelessly when the group was written into an I Dream of Jeannie episode; their boss, Don Kirshner, was a consultant for the show).
