The Sharp End

In rock climbing, being on the Sharp End is being on lead, that is, leading the route. It is ambiguous where this term came from, but for some reason it seems to fit. Following is far less stressful than Leading, as the leader takes the lions share of the risk, aside from the inherent possibility of knocking something down on the follower. Originally used mostly in the UK, this is now gaining some popularity around these parts.
