The Man Who Came to Dinner is a comedic play be George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart.

The plot is as follows ...
The play is set in the 1940s/50s, wintertime. The Man (a one Sheridan Whiteside), a famous radio personality, goes to visit a (relatively) well-to-do suburbanite. Said suburbanite has a nuclear family, of happy squeaky wife and nice children who smile and say "Gee!" a lot.
As Whiteside approaches the house, he slips on their step, and purportedly breaks his leg.

He proceeds to commandeer the entire downstairs of the house for his office, absorbs the servants and all sorts of other stuff. Mr. Jefferson, the owner of the house, becomes increasingly angry, and much hilarity ensues.
For instance, being a famous radio personality, he can't miss his Christmas Eve broadcast, so it has to be broadcast from his newfound (and one would hope temporary) home.
Also, as his many friends in showbiz and around the world hear of his injury, they send him gifts (an octopus, penguins, a cockroach farm, etc).

It's really a very funny play, and I suggest you see it if at all possible.
