Located in Nong Khai, Issan Thailand, this bridge connects Thailand and Laos across the Mekong River. This bridge allows for foreigners, Thai and Lao people to travel to either country. Bridge was constructed by three parties, Thailand, Laos and Australia. Its approximate cost is thirty-million American Dollars. This bridge has been the cause of both good and bad relations between the two countries. The bridge is conveniently located about twenty-four kilometres from the Lao capital of Vientiane. Highway 2 (connects Bangkok (Grungthep), Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat, Korach), Khon Kaen, Udon Thani) is a well-kept road between Bangkok, and Nong Khai, allowing the possibility of a convenient trade-route.
Although this bridge has caused some political problems between the two countries, generally relations have gotten a little bit better. Although a French-British problem exists here, as cars in Laos drive on a French based road system, and cars in Thailand drive on a British based road system.
For foreigners a Lao visa costs approximately $30USD.
