Tarnation existed as a band from roughly 1992 to 1998. During its existence, it was really a vehicle for
Paula Frazer. She formed the band and was responsible for each lineup of
musicians that performed under the name. Three
albums were released under the
Tarnation name:
After
1998,
Paula abandoned the name "Tarnation." In
2001, she released the album
Indoor Universe under her own name.
Tarnation sounds like a cross between folk music and the soundtrack to a Western. The tone is dark and brooding, the guitar is haunting, and the vocals are beautiful and alone in an uncaring world.
