One day, as an Etruscan labourer was drawing his plough along a furrow, he suddenly saw a clod of earth rise up and become a child which he named Tages. This Tages was said to be the son of the Genius Iovialis. He was gifted with great wisdom and possessed extraordinary powers of prophecy. He lived just long enough to predict the future for the villagers who had come running to the field where he was born for, after instructing them in the rules of haruspication, he died. His words were written down and formed the basis of Etruscan books devoted to prophecy.
