TV Studio was to my
high school what the "
AV Club" is to most other
high schools. However, it was not called the "
AV Club" because that would give it an "
undesirable"
reputation as a
geek haven. When I first joined the
TV Studio, it was an
outcast club, but further along, more
popular kids started to join and they made fun of and
alienated me, thinking that I was a
psycho because I was
quiet and just sat in the studio doing
work and playing with
equipment rather than listening to
popular music and being
chipper. I got pretty
grouchy as a result of this and started
rebelling against the studio
a little bit.
I got kicked out of the TV Studio on two occasions: The first was for making a web site that made fun of the facilitator for various reasons. The second was because I drank a mug of Mountain Dew while I was doing a morning announcements broadcast, and several teachers actually called to complain. I got sent to the principal's office for insubordination.
None of this would have happened if they just called it the "AV Club" and let the geeky students run it, as was meant to be.
