Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity. While every
cell phone in the
GSM network has an
IMSI,
VLR's can allocate users
TMSIs to identify them, while the users are in the
VLR's area. It is shorter than the IMSI (as it is local and temporary, so sometimes VLR's will assign users TMSIs, and thus identify them.
