A musical instrument that looks like a guitar, but is in fact like a drum machine due to the fact that it is covered with pressure sensitive pads that are mapped to sounds through a set of MIDI devices. The only known one is used by Future Man of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

Musical instrument made from a bunch of piezoelectric contact microphones stuck onto a SynthAxe (an inordinately expensive MIDI guitar), putting out audio trigger signals that are converted to MIDI data by drum-pad modules.

The SynthAxe Drumitar used by Future Man is almost definitely unique, but other hand-drumming instruments on the "bunch of piezo triggers on a board" theme have been made by a company called Zendrum, and probably by many non-famous DIY musician types like ME.
