SyncML attempts to deliver an XML based, open, industry-wide specification for the synchronization of remote data and personal information across multiple networks, platforms and devices. It's basically a way of copying phone books and appointments from PCs to mobile phones and organisers.
SyncML is driven by Nokia partnered with IBM, Lotus, Ericsson, Motorola, Palm Inc., Psion and Starfish Software.
