Sundiata

Sundiata (Which is pronounced Soon-de-ah-tah) was a major figures in west african history who lived in the 13th century AD. He was the main driving force behind the formation of the kingdom of Mali in 1235. He reportedly was a hunchback and had a wooden leg.

The hunchback in the legend of Sundiata was actually his mother Sogolon who was also known as the Buffalo woman because her spirit form was an enormous buffalo that terrorized Mali. I'm going to assume that the African buffalo has a slightly different disposition than the American buffalo here since there are very few American legends of the hills being razed by buffalo...
