Popular British writer. She has become famous for her publication of the diaries of Adrian Mole, a boy who is painfully growing up to adulthood. Although Sue Townsend has published a few completely different (childrens) books as well, they have never become nearly as popular as any book in the Adrian Mole series.

Sue Townsend has also published grown-up books such as The Queen and I, the terribly funny story in which a new British government abolishes the monarchy and the royal family go live in council houses (housing projects), and also Rebuilding Coventry (which I haven't read). And the more recent Adrian Mole books are not children's books either. Both the Adrian Mole stories and The Queen and I have been made into plays, and there is even an Adrian Mole songbook.
