The student's t test may be used to test if two means are significantly different. It is a very important statistical test.

Its name is unusual, because the statistician (William S. Gosset) who developed it was not permitted to publish the results by his employer (The Guinness brewing company). So the paper was anonymized and attributed to "student", and hence the name.
