An infection of the throat with streptococcal bacteria. Causes sore throat, fever, headaches, and incredibly evil coughs. Children and the elderly are especially susceptible to strep. It is very contagious and often spread by saliva - dishes and glasses used by people with strep throat should be thoroughly washed to prevent transmission. A strep infection is usually treated with a course of antibiotics.
