"Stranger on the Shore" may refer to both the music by Acker Bilk, with its' lyrics, and also a circa 1963 BBC TV program with the same name.
The music was created for the eponymous BBC mini series, about a French girl visiting England, as an au pair. Paired with the TV program, Stranger on the Shore became a huge hit, staying in the top of the charts for many weeks.
The program was quite touching to me at the time (I was about 8). I will always remember the scene at the end where the young lady is looking out to sea, and the music plays.
