Etymology:

In Middle High German, the term Storch had the meaning of 'stick', namely in reference to such objects as a tree stump, fishing pole etc. and from a 15th century Austrian medical treatise: the phallus (des Mannes Storch). Hence the popular folklore of a 'stick-bird' bearing babies...
