Los Angeles makeup artist Jeanine Lobell intoduced her own line of
cosmetics, Stila (pronounced STEEL-a), in 1994. Lobell's concern for the
environment lead her to use
recycled paper, metal, and
glass to package the majority of Stila's products. Fun girlie illustrations and inspiring
quotes were included to add whimsy to the line. In addition to cosmetics, Stila also produces scents,
brushes, bags and collectible
paint cans.
Currently Stila is owned by
Estee Lauder, but remains under the creative direction of Lobell. The name Stila means '
pen' in
Italian.
