In Greek legend, one of the Pleiades sisters. Also known as Asterope or Asterie. In some accounts, she was ravished by Ares and gave birth to Oenomaus, king of Pisa. In others, Oenomaus was her husband, and they had a beautiful daughter, Hippodaima, and three sons, Leucippus, Hippodamus, and Dysponteus, founder of Dyspontium. Yet another Asterope may have been the mother of the Sirens, who lured sailors to their deaths with their enchanting singing.
