The Swedish title for the Prime Minister of Sweden, which of course is the head of government. The Prime Minister is not the head of state, though, since Sweden is a constitutional monarchy. The head of state is therefore the monarch, which currently is King Carl XVI Gustaf. The current heir to the throne is his daughter, the Crown Princess Victoria.

The Statsminister is elected by the parliament, which in turn is of course elected by the people, and the Statsminister then himselfs selects the members of his government.

The current Statsminister is Göran Persson of the Social Democratic Party, who has held the title since he replaced Ingvar Carlsson in 1996.
