Spenta Mainyu is the most powerful creation of Ahura Mazda, the god of Zoroastrianism. He is the general of the forces of good that were created by Ahura Mazda to fight against Angra Mainyu, the Evil Spirit. He is analagous in many ways to both humanity and Ahura Mazda himself; in fact, one interpretation of Zoroastrian tradition states that Spenta Mainyu is the direct counterpart to Angra Mainyu, and that he represents the forces of good in every human being. In this philosophy, Spenta Mainyu and Angra Mainyu represent the battle between good and evil in everyone, and constitute a spiritual dualism.
