Apparently, during a concert shortly after the 1977 plane crash that killed three members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Neil Young played part of "Sweet Home Alabama," Skynrd's response to "Southern Man," at the point in the set where he would have played "Southern Man," so apparently he had no hard feelings even though this song is pretty hard on Southerners.
