The Song of Ceber

Argument: Ceber attempts to get the Masked God to tell her how to get into the spirit realms so she can defeat Takara.

The Masked God

Silent Ceber       went to the caves
Unchanged through the changing years
She found the shadowed god there
As she knew she would.

“Tell me, masked-one       how to make a god mortal?
Cruel Takara torments me.       Tell me!”

Behind its porcelain       painted portrait
Nothing changed       but a nod.
The head inclined       indicating some emotion.

“Such horrid hubris       would have once horrified me,”
the shade said.       “Still my heart leaps to hear it.
Takara has paid me an unmitigated       malicious wrong.
I have desired her death,       her destruction.
Her enemies have       ever expanded,
Her allies are       all fled.
But mortals cannot kill gods.
Do not take that       a decisive defeat.
You may beat her without killing her.
First find the       Weaver Worms
In the dome of the sky.”

“Pardon me,” Ceber said,
“But I have no wings
And even if I did,
No wing could carry a wasp       way up there.”

“What’s lost is regained,” the god said.

Valiant Ceber's wings had returned.
Vibrant orange graced her back.
Awestruck Ceber       shook with amazement.

“These will carry you,       Ceber Starlight,”
the god faded       fast-disapparition.

Ceber gathered her strength
Then flew out of the cave       for the first time
In years on her own power.
