This story of Wilson A. Bentley, told by Jacqueline Briggs Martin, tells the story of a farm boy who was mesmerized by snowflakes, and later by photographing snowflakes. This book won the 1999 Caldecott Medel. As well as information on Bentley's life, the book provides information on snowflake science, and the methods behid photographing snowflakes.

This story is illustrated by the artwork of Mary Azarian, whose 19th-century hand-press illustrations decorate the charming Barn Cat.
