It's a big pile of snow. Normally nature is added and abetted in the formation of snowbanks by a passing snowplow, which forms long lines of piled snow along the roadside, much like the banks of a river.

It's also a word that the Microsoft Word spell checker does not know. I guess it never snows in Redmond, but still that's pretty lame.
