A tiny holiday resort about three hours west of Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road, Skene's Creek has no shops, the nearest being located in Apollo Bay six kilometres down the road. This town is used solely as a holiday resort and has almost no permanent population, most houses being owned by wealthy Melbourne/Geelong families or as timeshare.

Skene's Creek makes a perfect launching point for bushwalks in the Otway State Forest. The area has a kind of rugged beauty, much of it picturesque farmland.

The weather in this part of Victoria is generally cold, and with an Antarctic wind blowing almost permantently and the sun shining a mere 113 days a year this is probably not the place to have a summer holiday, though many do.

A part of Cape Otway Shire, Skene's Creek shares the postcode 3233 with neighbouring Apollo Bay.
