Shawn "Napster" Fanning is famous for the popular peer-to-peer music file indexing service he invented. He got the idea while at Northeastern University, and the service used his nickname. His napster servers permit online swapping of mp3 music files. The RIAA does not get any money out of these swaps (at least not directly), so they really hate Mr. Fanning.
