Considered the father of modern super computers Seymour Cray was born on 10/26/1925 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconson. Cray graduated from the University of Minnesota and worked on the pioneering UNIVAC I computer before co-founding Control Data Corporation. There he designed several mainframes noted for their very powerful processing ability.

In 1972 Cray founded Cray Research with the goal of producing the fastest computers ever created. A goal which he accomplished with the release of the Cray-1 in 1976. Cray continued to churn out ever more powerful computers until his death in a car accident in 1996.
