A store that sells makeup. Many women that I know like Sephora because they sell a wide variety of products from good manufacturers, as well as a good store brand, but without the annoying sales tactics used by makeup purveyors in malls and department stores. In this way, their success is much like that of Saturn.

When Sephora first came to my hometown no one I knew would shop there because the sales clerks were so scary. Seriously. Dressed entirely in black, with one white glove, and even the male clerks wore heavy makeup. Frightening.

I braved it anyway, mostly because the displays they had looked so beautiful. Rows and rows of back-lit translucent colored soap that looked just like hard candy. Yum.
