Sensory memory is the area where your brain stores sensory stimuli. It allows the sensation of a sound, a sight, or a touch to linger after the actual sensory stimulation is over. While usually the memory traces only linger for seconds, the storage capacity for sensory memory is rather large. For visually-related stimuli alone, it can recognize and handle up to 25 different stimuli.
