The Scottish Secondary Teachers' Association or the SSTA is currently Scotland's second largest teachers' union with around 7,000 members, founded in 1945 in direct competition with the older Educational Institute of Scotland which it was felt was unduly focused on primary education and was not providing proper represention for secondary school teachers. As a competitor with an existing trades union it therefore is not affiliated with the Trades Union Congress.
